A Look Back: National Truck Driver Appreciation Week
With Labor Day and back-to-school behind us and Thanksgiving and the holidays on the horizon, let’s take a moment to celebrate the truckers who supply our lives and strengthen the economy one more time (because a week just isn’t enough). Toys, books, food, clothing, cars, medical supplies, you name it — truck drivers all across the United States of America made that happen.
Sharing The Road
When you drive to the park with your kids or head out for a family road trip, it’s extremely likely you saw a truck sharing the road with you. Rain, shine, snow, or sleet, trucks are on the road with us every day including weekends and holidays. There are 3.5 million hardworking truck driving professionals in America who work tirelessly to deliver the goods that keep our lives supplied and the economy moving forward. The trucking industry is an essential driver of our economy, contributing almost $750 billion in revenue a year.
Through their dedication and hardwork, truck drivers, who travel over 4.5 billion collective miles a year, deliver goods safely and on time to every community across America. And, what you may not realize is they often spend days, or even weeks, away from their loved ones and family members to do all this.
We All Rely On Truck Drivers
Let’s also acknowledge this: In America, 80 percent of communities rely solely on trucking for the delivery of their goods. If there were fewer truck drivers on the road, deliveries would be much slower and the prices of goods would be higher. And, consider this: If there were no truck drivers on the road, there would be no deliveries to our businesses, hospitals or schools. The country and our economy would essentially come to a standstill.
While you may see trucks regularly on the road, when was the last time you stopped to appreciate how much they truly contribute to our lives, communities and economy? We here at Thunder Funding want to encourage you to extend that appreciation beyond one short week every September to honor these hard working men and women.
These trained professionals take pride in their work and in making their deliveries safely and on time. They’re also proud of the trucking industry’s safety initiatives and their own efforts in clocking in millions of accident-free miles. Truckers know that their personal promise to stay safe on the road — the same road they share with millions of other motorists — should always be a priority. So, whenever you see a truck driver behind the wheel, be sure to take a moment to smile or wave. It’s a great way to say thank you for all that they do for us every single day.
