Hispanic Heritage Month: Celebrating How Hispanics Enrich The Trucking Industry
Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated from September 15th to October 15th. Here at Thunder Funding we want to acknowledge all the wonderful contributions made by people of Hispanic Heritage. It is because of their tireless work and dedication that the American Dream still lives on.
Hispanic Americans make up about 18% of the US population and are the second largest ethnic group in the country. Their hard work has helped them become a major presence in many industries, including trucking.
In the trucking industry specifically – Hispanics account for 12 percent of the U.S. trucker population—and more than half of all foreign-born drivers in the country. During National Truck Drivers Appreciation Week we asked our carriers to nominate the best truck drivers they knew. We were particularly moved by an essay written by a daughter praising her immigrant father and the great lengths he went to in order to better his life; here is an excerpt from her essay:
“He started as an immigrant with no English working for companies barely making any money trucking to being his own boss but that hasn’t stopped him from still working every single week over the road. We’ve told him it’s time to take a break, he said no I have to continue and he hasn’t stopped. He’s done trucking most of his life and he’s loved it, he’s even brought in his sister and his brother in law and nephew to join trucking.” – Patricia C.
This story, like many others, is a testament to the hard work and commitment that Hispanic truckers put into their work every day. We’re happy to celebrate their resilience and devotion to trucking!
Happy Hispanic Heritage Month y gracias!
